Notice: Meta Crawlers Causing Increased Traffic

Recently, we have once again observed a noticeable increase in traffic from certain shops, which can be attributed to web crawlers from Meta (e.g. Facebook, Instagram). Although this traffic is not harmful or unwanted, it can still lead to significant additional costs.

Our recommendation:
Retailers who do not use Meta services such as Facebook Shop, Instagram Shop, or other Meta marketing tools should block these crawlers from accessing their shop.

Here’s how you can block the two Meta crawlers known to us, which may cause high traffic:

1. Navigate in your backend to: Settings » Shop » (Select Client) » SEO » Robots.txt
2. Add the following entry in your robots.txt file:

   User-agent: meta-externalagent
   Disallow: /
   User-agent: meta-webindexer
   Disallow: /
